Comitato 8 Ottobre - Per non dimenticare

ALSO IN SOUTH AFRICA A TREE "TO NEVER FORGET" (see photo Gallery)

The first week of September is Arbor Week in South Africa.

A group of members of Comitato 8 Ottobre was on holiday at Shiduli Lodge, near the Kruger National Park and on the 2nd of September was invited to take part in the traditional planting of indigenous trees . It was decided to dedicate a magestic tree – the leadwood – to the memory of the Linate tragedy

The leadwood tree grows very slowly, its wood is very dense, the only one to sink in water and not float,it is also termite and elephant proof.

With the attentive assistance of the Rangers each one of us took part in the event: some put the sapling in place, some filled the hole, some watered it, some prepared the provisonal plaque.

In the near future our guide Carla Reed, will take to the Lodge the brass plaque which will bear the inscription

“LINATE – October 8th 2001 to never forget – Shiduli 2 Settembre 2009” and the plaque will be placed by the leadwood tree.

A tangible sign to remember our tragedy will also be in the wonderful and incredible Africa.

We want to thank the Management of the Lodge and everybody who co-operated for the honour afforded to us.

Everything was very moving and you were all with us in our thoughts.
