Comitato 8 Ottobre - Per non dimenticare

An award to Paolo Pettinaroli in memory of his contribution to the safety of flights

With gratitude and appreciation for his service to the safety of the flight, the crash victims and their families, today the Flight Safety Foundation honored the memory of Paolo Pettinaroli with the annual "FSF President's Citation". The award was presented during the 68th International Air Safety Summit in Miami, Florida.

Following the tragic death of his son, in the incident on 8 October 2001 at Milan Linate, Pettinaroli founded the Committee on October 8, which brings together the families of the victims and is focused on flight safety. In 2010, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the FSF and this has had an immediate impact. He helped the Foundation in hosting the International Air Safety Seminar that year in Milan.

"Paolo brought a new perspective to the Board of the Foundation, as a father of a victim of plane crash and founder of the group of families of the victims. His deep passion for safety and his voice strong and durable for the victims and their families will be missed deeply" said Jon Beatty, President and CEO of FSF. "We miss his strong voice for victims and their families. It's a real honor to award him, today, the President's Citation".

The President's Citation was established in 1988 by the Board of Directors of the FSF to give recognition to individuals and groups for their achievements in the field of flight safety, outside of the criteria for the award of other prizes. The award honors those who have demonstrated an "exceptional dedication to safety, be it courage, professionalism and service that go well beyond normal expectations."
